Welcome to the Mountain Village Schlenzer

The name "Schlenzer" comes from the Slavic language and means something like "sun mountain", which describes the geographical and prevailing weather conditions of Schlenzer quite well. The fact that the elevation on which the village of Schlenzer in the Lower Flaeming is enthroned measures an imposing 143 metres above sea level may not be all that impressive at first, but anyone who climbs up to Schlenzer from the west or east on skates or bicycle on the Flaeming Skate will understand why the village has acquired the designation "mountain village". And the fact that the sun often shines here, or at least it stays dry, while the neighbouring communities are in the rain, is quite pleasant for visitors, even if the fields, meadows and gardens suffer from drought many a year.
